Circling the Work

January 19, 2008 § Leave a comment

I figure it’s OK to send messages to Snarl suggesting books he should read. And giving him a writing hint, now and then.  Just a little something, like: Write it. Walk away from it. Return, and write it some more.

You can write sitting in front of the telly, laughing at Family Guy or anything else equally young-man obnoxious. You can hoot and holler, snack and snog if you like, and still write.

Editing, however, requires getting away to wherever you feel good about the light and the silence and the writing surface when you sit down.

It’s work, Snarl. It’s work.
