Calling Snarl…

March 7, 2008 § Leave a comment

Often when I’m talking with Snarl, I note there is music, conversation, laughter, and hubub in the background from wherever he is when he calls. That’s good. He’s at university and should be surrounded by the pomp and racket of academia, sharing, ideas, spontaneity, truth. All of those things make noise.

Nevertheless I want to tell him: “Don’t be afraid of the quiet. Writers have to be able to endure it, drop into it.”

It was quiet wherever he called from last night. He was writing.

You don’t have to tell them everything. Sometimes it’s good just to think things.
