Shoutout #6 … to Autumn (albeit a reluctant shoutout)

September 30, 2008 § 9 Comments

The morning chill is not amenable to going barefoot when  walking the dogs.

The corn has morphed from sweet stuff you eat to dry stuff you hang on your door as a decoration.

Your weekend outings become less beach and more long walks scuffling through leaves, wondering if people actually love autumn more than summer.  There is an inherent relief with the onset of this season.

Being a creature of habit, I appreciate the return to habit and the return to a more structured schedule that autumn usually brings. Not to mention the chance to wear the soft flannel shirts and warm Smartwool socks that make me feel snug and cuddled.

As always, I’ve enjoyed your photos — that’s an amazing photo of a spiderweb!

  • Jeanie says:

These photos are just beautiful — I always enjoy seeing your work. The spiderweb is wonderful — perfect light. And I love the thought of the corn morphing from veggies to decorations. Too true!

  • oh says:

anno – oh, the flannel shirts and socks!Don’t they sound wonderful? (It’s 50 degrees as I write this and yes, that’s chilly! thanks for your lovely photo comment!

Jeanie – you know, I think we ate corn on the cob only two or three times this season. And your new blog is beautiful – how ever do you have the time?

  • qugrainne says:

Beautiful photos – I really like the blue with the green peas.
Fall clothes are delightful, aren’t they?

  • Courtney says:

Relief is the perfect word for autumn. I really enjoy summer but as an adult it has less charm than it did as a child…I don’t particularly like the crowds during summer travel, and the season can seem overrun with weddings, graduations, that sort of thing…autumn is absolutely a relief!

I love autumn, and I love these photos. I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to capture a spiderweb — great shot.

  • Andi says:

October is my favorite month, so I loved this post.

  • shoreacres says:

Thank goodness for autumn. October is our perfect month here on the Gulf Coast, and we’re having a taste now. Mid-60’s isn’t much to brag about cool-wise, but it’s a change everyone loves, and it’s been especially welcome this year as the clean up continues. Besides – we’re getting closer to soup-and-stew weather!

  • oh says:

Courtney, you’re right about running around all summer. And with the light shifting, it’s easier to take it easier, be more “couch-ish,” too.
Me, too, QUgrainne – I love fall/winter clothes. The layers, the looks, and the boots!
Lisa, the spider web had early morning dew on it, that’s the only reason it worked.
Hi, Andi, thanks for commenting and truly, thanks for that book review op! Yes, I did go back and read Mathias’s comments. I even printed it all out!
Linda, we’re lucky to have you back, up and running, and writing! And just your very mention of soup and stew gives me tonight’s idea for dinner.
