flying…(time that is)

The month of May so far…

Three birthdays (best friend, hubs and Mom)

Graduation (Snarl is so smart – yay!!!!!!!!!!)

First time at a B&B (gorgeous. The Yates House in Rocheport.)

Work (integration with co that has acquired us)

Yardwork (Tons to do to “open” up the place for summer: mulching, trimming, weed whacking, mowing, sweeping, edging, planting…you get the idea)

BBQing (yay – we can be outdoors and the last thing anyone wants to do is open up a laptop)

Checking the schedules and calendars to see where/what we should be doing)

Reading? very little. Various magazines. Franzen’s FREEDOM. (geez, he’s minimalistically “dark” but he can really write and nail characters so I plow on.)

Writing? Um, nearly none. Journal is suffering from separation anxiety.

Call this wee bit forward motion. Some pictures next time.

Read books about one’s career. There are things to be learned, or savored, or “aha”ed.
The best thing about outdoors is that wonderful scent/smell. How delightful to smell fresh air!
You should not use A/C to the point where you are sitting on the couch wrapped in a blanket.
Dogs need at least semi-annual grooming. Your dog will allow strangers to clip their nails but not you,  so much.
Work will constantly test you. Detox, let it go, on your way home. Upon arrival at home, do NOT immediately attempt to make dinner. Change clothes, have a conversation with hubs. Then, cook simply.
If you know you’re going to fall asleep watching TV at night, then watch it in the bedroom.
A hard rain will wash your car for you.
Umbrellas are useless in sideways rain.
There is such a thing as too many meetings.
There’s magic in a smile.

A rich, fine month. Have the others been like this? I envy you.

A smile is a staggering thing because it is so unexpected! No one smiles anymore: when you do, it sets you apart, and in fact makes you rather fabulous.

Aubrey – you are right- a smile is “a staggering thing…” I love that description.

Hey, it looks like I get to come to Cali this summer – Santa Monica area – yay!

  • mandy says:

So glad that you’ve had a nice month. I love that the weather has finally warmed enough so that outside can actually be enjoyed — from deck drinking, naps on the swing by the pond, or even sending out resumes while soaking up some sun. Its hard to believe that May ends in just a few days.

    • oh says:

Dear M – it’s a rollicking month so far. Nor and D just headed out. Suddenly, this house is huge. I’m cleaning like a nut. Miss them, and Jack-the-dog already!

  • anno says:

Ah, yes, the merry month of May. Sounds like yours has been well-spent: all good things here. Glad to hear the weather hasn’t been keeping you down, at least not too much. Welcome back!

    • oh says:

Thanks, Anno! egads, yes, the weather has been ridiculous and shows no signs of mercy. crazy clouds even if it’s not raingin and blowing. sheesh. So delighted to have a 3-day weekend. Cheers to you and yours!

  • You have had a big month! Mine has been big, too… Found tenant for suburban condo. Signed lease on downtown condo. Welcomed a new nephew into the world (#5 – I have a basketball team of nephews now!). Went on first business trip. Studied a ridiculous number of hours for my big test.

    • oh says:

Lisa – Congrats on your new nephew! wow – a basketball team – hilarious! HOpe the biz trip was good. It’s fun to do, but SO much work, more than most people realize. and ah, the test. Keep me current! Must catch up with what you’re reading, too.

So glad to see you back!!

  • jeanie says:

Many, many good lessons here! And if it’s warm enough to have the AC on, then it’s a LOT warmer there than here! I’ll be anxious to hear all about the B&B — love ’em, and bring pics of the graduation! So glad to see you writing again! Hooray!

    • oh says:

J – Always wonderful to hear from you…and inspiring. Oh, you’re right! I need to bring pictures. oh boy, a getaway! and at the moemnt, a 3-day weekend! hope you’re feeling ok and maybe/maybe not opening the house at the lake?

  • Becca says:

May HAS flown by, although it hasn’t been particularly savory in the weather department up in our neck of the woods. Way behind on the yard work and outdoorsy things, which means that come June I’m already a day late and a dollar short, as the saying goes.

Still, I push along, and look forward to having at least a bit more time to dawdle this spring, since I’ve left the office job behind. We’ll see…

    • oh says:

Dear B, so jealous (but in a good way) that you’ve left office life behind. oh, the freedom! and so well deserved – bet you’re loving it. Hope you’re playing lots of music on your own time now and sending it out into the universe. IN the meantime, it’s so nice, glorious, in fact, to have a 3-day weekend! Enjoy! enjoy! enjoy!

  • Bree says:

Love your lists. Sounds like you had a busy May. Enjoy the summer now that your house is “opened” up.
