Fines for big drinks? hmmm…

September 30, 2012 § 3 Comments

As little league baseball parents, we were required to work the ballpark snack bar from time to time.  There was a menu offering called “pepper bellies.” You scissored off the top  of a bag of Fritos (TM), spooned in some meat-n-beans chile, added yellow shredded cheese and ladled on (insidious) green peppers, then handed it over in the Frito bag itself, with a spoon.
I never ate it but I did expect the bag to go up in flames as I handed it over to the eager customer.

With some curiosity and raised eyebrow I digested this sign last week: Frito Pie.
Sounds  like it might go with one of those huge quart-sized soft drinks, except in NYC?

The thought of the “pepper bellies” terrifies me. I can do spicy, but I don’t do heavy-duty jalapeno! Frito Pie, on the other hand, can be heaven when made at home. It was one of Mom’s favorites and a standard around here for a while.

They need to offer some Frito Pie to those poor kids in the country’s lunchrooms who are going hungry. One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to calories. Just because some kids are overweight doesn’t mean that 750-850 calorie lunches will do it for everyone. (Oops! I’ll put that soapbox away right now, before someone trips over it and spills their drink! LOL)

We had terrible weather for our balloon festival, but a few went up. Here’s one, combined with our lighthouse.

Glad to hear it’s a good “pie”and nothing like those pepper bellies!

I think I’ll give a pass to good old Frito Pie. Linda’s comments on lunchrooms is an interesting point. Do they dare serve refried beans in the lunchroom these days?
